The BBC was accused last night of letting BNP bigot Nick Griffin 'play the martyr' amid bitter recriminations over his appearance on Question Time.
Senior MPs accused the corporation of whipping up controversy to maximise viewing figures - then crudely stage-managing the programme so he was under attack throughout from the audience and fellow panellists. They said the attempt to expose his racist views risked backfiring because some voters would feel he had been unfairly treated.
Last night it emerged that:
Complaints that the show was biased against Mr Griffin outnumbered by more than two to one those about him being allowed to appear;
Some of the audience appear to have been rushed through the vetting process in a bid to emphasise the multi-cultural nature of London;
Audience members were briefed to ask 'provocative' questions and host David Dimbleby told them it was acceptable to boo;
More than eight million people tuned in - four times the usual audience and more than watched Strictly Come Dancing last week ( I WOULD FUCKING HOPE SO!);
The BNP boasted that since Mr Griffin's appearance, 3,000 people had registered to sign up as members;
Joel Weiner, 17, who dramatically confronted Mr Griffin about Holocaust denial, said he applied to attend a Question Time programme more than a year ago, but was approached just 24 hours before filming.
JUST AS WE HAVE SAID ON THIS BLOG GUYS, THE BBC MADE A FUCKING ARSE OF IT!

And Andrew ( brillo pad) Neil on "This Week " with Diane (my kids are in private school but fuck you suckers) Abbott continued the farce by talking total bollox.
Griffen had the last laugh though. Despite being surprisingly poor on QT he got 8 million viewers and a sympathetic audience. With 3,000 new members joining the BNP. Result.
DL I just love your rants! Keep them coming.
Ringpiece, I've always liked Portillo, I think he is genuinely one of these Tories in the mould of the 1950s, who ok had a few bob and an estate in the borders somewhere that you could get lost in, but had a sense of public duty as a politician. At least you knew that they didn't have to screw the taxpayer and the voters to line their own pockets because they already had a small fortune. Not like these thieving bastards.
Thank you Rosie, but rants? These are heartfelt concerns!
My problem is that Griffin is a buffoon with a history of stupid statements. This makes it easy for the "major" parties to ignore folks who have real concerns about immigration and multiculturalism as they can be shrugged off as BNP bampots.
And yet the BNP are the only party that are addressing those concerns. Do the math - these guys are on a winner.
Scunnert this is their problem. It is the ARROGANCE OF POWER. After a while in politics they forget what it is like to be the man in the street. They forget their concerns, how difficult it is to bring up your family when your job is not guaranteed, no big expenses paid by your employer and a nice cushy pension after 5 yerars. In short, they forget who it is they are representing and what their problems are.
It's all backfired big time.And the fascist BBC have being exposed for the government-run puppets they are.
Yes Ansel, all because they couldn't help themselves attacking Griffin. If they had run a normal programme he would have passed into oblivion.
