ANTI HOMOSEXUAL BED AND BREAKFAST COUPLE FINED-BUT IS IT RIGHT?

Mr and Mr Smith would like the honeymoon suite, George.

I see the couple who run the Bed and Breakfast establishment in their home, who were set up by a couple of activist Homosexuals, have been fined £1,800. I blogged on this in March last year and we had a good debate then, but without going over old ground and for the benefit of new readers, does this seem fair?

Briefly, the case was brought by a couple of Homosexuals who targeted a Christian Couple's Bed and Breakfast, which they ran in their own home as a small business.  This was done deliberately to test the Christian couple's beliefs of Homosexuality.  The case was brought by the EHRC, (the Equalities and Human Rights Commission), who paid for the Homosexuals legal costs.  The Judge gave them leave to appeal the case to a higher court, which illustrated to me, that perhaps he wasn't in full agreement of the law or wasn't sure of his legal ground.

So who's case was the strongest?  The Homosexual activists or the Christian couple.  Are all people equal but some people are more equal than others?  What would I have done?  Well as most of you know, I don't have any religious convictions, but I am certainly Homophobic to a certain degree, like most Heterosexual men, if they were being truthful.  I would have allowed them in, on the condition, that if they made a mess of the sheets, they were going to pay extra, as I would with a Heterosexual couple, if I was being honest.

Actually, I'm a lying bastard,  I would have told them we were full up or made some other excuse.

Oli, excellent. What I don't understand is how someone who could be in something as good as that, could make that Mr Bean shite?

If it had been my hotel, they wouldn't have had a leg to stand on. Their crime was "discriminating", where as me I'm abusive and provide crappy service to everybody. One look at my guestbook with comments like "Will never darken this doorstep again", "I thought I'd died and gone to hell" and "The welcome was as warm as the weather" would put paid to any EHRC litigation from the get go.

In the last week or so another blogger post on CBC (Canadian) banning Dire Straits hit "Money for nothing" for its offensive term "Faggot".
Apart from "Faggot" being a meatball made from pigs liver and onions, it's also a lump of firewood. That aside it isn't offensive as it's another of those euphemisms like gay, queer or bent. If they wanted to be offensive, they could have used "Shit stabber", "arse bandit", "up hill gardener", "bum boys" or my personal favourite "shirt lifter".

What is it with these people, they go out their way to offend people, then when they get a reaction they go crying like a 5 year old.

It's much worse than them going out of their way to be offended , Budvar .

They were sent there as agents provocateurs by the (substantially government-funded) pressure group Stonewall .

The prosecution was then brought by the wholly government-funded Equality and Human Rights Commission .

Their Commissar then went on telly to tell us proles that "people need to be careful".

This is the jackboot of the new ,"liberal" state stamping on the sensibilities of the majority .

PS . Never saw Mr. Bean , DL . Even the trailers were pish .

Budders, remember when you were a kid and people used the phrase, "Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me"? So why do these radical shirt lifters, my favourite too, target small Christian B&Bs? They have the right IMO, to serve who they right, in just the same way if you walk into a pub, the owner has the right to serve you or not. And that's a licensed premise.

Oli, aye as I said on my original post in March, they were set up and the whole thing was crap, on the sheets if you see what I mean.

Don't ever watch it, it's pish.

Apart from the whole thing being a set up as you say but don't forget about New Labour New Tori mantra about "lifestyle choices".

The two benders had plenty of other local hotels to choose from, some not discriminating and others openly gay. The two hosts now appear to have no choice as to which manner of pervert they must allow into their home. Cheers Nu Tori, cheers ECHR, ta very much.

Banned, this fucking bunch are worse than Labour. Wet behind the ear Tories with a more left wing agenda being fed in by the Libdums. It's time for Bill Cash and his cronies from the Shires to take things over and give us a minority Tory Government. It works OK in Scotland.

Crikey, I only just saw a photo of the gaymen today, they look like they deserve each other.
If I'd have been the B&B hosts I'd have put them in the outhouse, given them some spanners and told them to get on with it.
