IT'S JUST A SHAME THIS GUY IS IN JAIL!

China responded furiously yesterday after the country's most famous dissident, the imprisoned pro-democracy campaigner Liu Xiaobo, won the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his long and non-violent struggle for human rights.
China described the award to Mr Liu as "an insult". Mr Liu is serving 11 years in prison for subversion, but the decision cast a spotlight on the country's human rights record, with US President Barack Obama, (who gives a fuck what he says!), leading calls for Mr Liu's immediate release.
I had a business acquaintance, a person of Chinese extraction, who is now a successful businessman in Edinburgh, who I got to know really well, well as well as you can know a Chinese person in the lead up to 1990, when we ceased to meet through no fault of his.
Now in 1989, he was quite motivated by the Tian'anmen Square protest and anyway, although I know fuck all about it,  if it was good enough for him, that'll do for me too!

Those Nobel guys are so wiered, first they give a prize to arch cunt Al Gore and then go and do something useful like this.

I'm with banned on this. Last year it was Obama and now it's this academic campaigner. With giving the likes of Obama the prize it degrades the quality don't you think DL.

Banned, I don't know what the criteria is or whose on the committee, but I suppose Al Gore could have been seen by some as being worthy of it, if of course you believe all the climate change shite. This is more the award that it should make, IMHO.

Rosie, the award to Obama was certainly a shocker. I suppose the peace prize is the most contentious although awarding the scientific prize this year to someone who works in the fertility field was also perverse. Nobel used to have munitions works near me at Ardeer and I suppose he made his money out of weapons but at least he is giving something back to society unlike the Rothschilds and the their pals. I think though that the concept has grown away from what he envisaged. The huge monetary award has taken away from the prestige of winning the prize because you are the best in your own particular field.
