Defence chiefs have been left stunned and angry by the Treasury's refusal to finance the £20 billion, (and BTW that's only the initial cost it could be up to £70 billion), cost of replacing Britain's ageing nuclear deterrent.
George Osborne, the Chancellor, has ruled that the entire cost of the new system must be found from within the day-to-day defence budget. The ruling has caused disarray within the Ministry of Defence where officials are already struggling to find cost savings of 20 per cent – or £7 billion – from next year's budget.
Britain should accept that it is no longer a warrior race. We should not be involved in the invasion of some one else's land, in this day and age. Can anyone explain to me what the fuck we want with an

As Simon Heffer points out in The Telegraph, three years of overseas aid for propping up dictators would pay for the renewal of Trident.
Banned, thank Christ someone commented on this story. I'm stopping doing a post on a Sunday, it's a waste of time. India has a nuclear weapons and a Space programme and we're still sending them money. Mind you Trident is a waste of space, we can't use it unless the Americans let us.
Yes but it would free up the cash to but all the other required kit.
Banned, aye I would rather see the money going to properly equip our forces in Afghanistan, maybe buy some decent vechiles which don't get blown up by IEDs
