British Gas faces a backlash as it prepares to announce a 50 per cent surge in profits on the back of a winter of crippling energy bills.
The UK's largest supplier, with 15.7million customers, has made profits of more than £550million in the past year.

Thousands of elderly, meanwhile, have been unable to afford to keep warm during the coldest winter in 30 years.

So this is Scotland in 2010.  Thanks to Conservative, Labour and Labour/Libthingie's Governments, PENSIONERS ARE FREEZING TO DEATH IN AN ENERGY RICH COUNTRY, SCOTLAND.  It is nothing short of a NATIONAL DISGRACE!  And it doesn't happen in NORWAY, BTW.

The SNP are keeping very quiet about this. In fact they're keeping quiet about a lot of things.

Time they came out and supported the pensioners.

I'm not impressed with their head in the sand attitude. I know they perhaps think it's the best way to keep out of trouble, but it's the easy way and I don't want politicians who take the easy route.

Your picture of Her Majesty attempting to warm her hands before Balmoral's one-bar fire proves that the Civil List must be increased .

As for pensioners - how come the pubs are polluted with them when the Winter Heating Allowance comes through ?

This "Save the Pensioners From The Cold" pish is identical to " Will Someone Think Of The Children ?"

PS . If the limbless and long-term sick on Incapacity Benefit are a shower of scroungers and a drain on society , how come the State Pension shells out even more money + anything else that's going ?

Just asking .

Rosie, I just wish they would do something! It is as if they think their vote will stay constant and everyone will turn out. Which is Pish.

Libels, No, that's not Rosie. She's stays in the fancy bit of Dundee and she just sits in her sauna when it gets cold. After that she whips herself with birch twigs then sits down and eats a Dairy Milk. AAh! SexyGrannies R us!

Oli, Ask again when you're 75 and sitting in your concrete tower! BTW it does look like the Queen.

Luckily they have closed down the local libraries and I was able to salvage many books from the skip outside which I took to my Mums place, cleared a bit of a space in the living room and burned them to keep her warm and cozy.

Banned,You would have been easier taking your mum to the skip, sitting her on the books and lighting them. The walk would have heated her up as well and you could have bought her a nice tea in the cafe on the High Street.

Dl you're nearly right there but, in order to put the record straight, once I've rolled in the snow and beaten myself with twigs, I usually enjoy a few Tio Pepes augmented with the pleasure of some olives stuffed with anchovies.

Chocolate isn't my downfall, the above is.

Rosie, I'm on my way. E-mail your address!

DL - When you're 75 will you think of the poor orphaned children , with humphs and wooden legs , who could be helped by that Winter Fuel Allowance ?

"Please save some money for food , Granpa DL"

Thought not !

Heartless , CaPITalist b****d !

Oli, I'll be needing the weans' wooden legs to burn to keep warm. What are you trying to say? ;-)
