The age of the nation state is over and the idea that countries can stand alone is an ‘illusion’ and a ‘lie’, the EU president believes.
In one of the most open proclamations of the goal of a European superstate since the heyday of Jacques Delors, Herman Van Rompuy went on to denounce Eurosceptism as the greatest threat to peace.
Tory backbenchers condemned the inflammatory comments in the speech made by Mr Van Rompuy to mark the 21st anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
They said it proved that David Cameron would have a battle on his hands if he is to prevent extra powers being handed to Brussels.
Last night 23 Conservative MPs, including former leadership contender David Davis, rebelled in the Commons by demanding a referendum if the Lisbon Treaty is amended – even if ministers argue the changes do not affect the UK. Their call was defeated.
Mr Van Rompuy’s speech in the German capital told his audience that ‘the time of the homogenous nation state is over’.
He added that the ‘danger’ of Euroscepticism was spreading beyond the confines of countries such as Britain and was becoming a stronger force across the whole continent.
"THE TIME OF THE HOMOGENOUS NATION STATE IS OVER". Homogenous is defined as, 'corresponding in structure because of a common origin'. So if I understand Mr Rompuy correctly, all States with a common origin with Britain like, Australia, Canada and New Zealand are expected to disappear, while we morph into one huge EU superstate. Would it not have been better, at least, to get elected before telling everyone in Europe where the NWO expects us to be in relation to the other power blocks like America and Asia.
This is the first move in the end game that we bloggers have been warning about for years. The traitor Heath, knew fine what he was getting us into, when he got us involved with the 'Common Market'. Thatcher, merely slowed down the process, after which 13 years of Totalitarian Labour rule have 'softened' us up for the final part of the plan. I don't know about you, but I have nothing in common with the Poles, Latvians or Turks, although I am sure they are all fine fellows. I don't want some Parliament in Brussels or Strasbourg making rules that we keep, because we're British and everyone else breaks, because they can. I want to be able to trade with English speaking countries that have stood beside us in two world wars, as well as with Europe. But only to trade, not to be subordinate to.
