SCOTTISH TORIES ELECT GAY KICK-BOXER RATHER THAN MODERNISE!

Ruth Davidson is the new leader of the Scottish Conservatives after its members narrowly rejected her main opponent’s plan to disband and start a new right-wing party.

The 32-year-old former BBC journalist edged out Murdo Fraser by only 566 votes in the bad-tempered contest after he argued the Tory brand was too mistrusted north of the Border for the party ever to succeed.
But Miss Davidson, who is openly gay and a kick boxer, said she will unite the deeply-divided party and attract new support from sections of Scottish society that have stopped listening to the Conservatives.

I honestly think the  Scottish Tories have made a huge mistake here.  I know there are a good number of people in the SNP who are centre right, but believe in Scottish independence.  A new centre right party, in favour of independence and separate from the English Tory party could have had a significant vote in Scotland.  Remember it's only 50 years since Scotland voted overwhelmingly Tory, helped to be fair, by the anti-Catholic and therefore anti-Labour vote of the Protestant majority.  The Tory party in Scotland's full title is the 'Conservative and Unionist party' and I think that tells you all about their members.  It doesn't say much for the other two candidates that they didn't do better, when a lesbian, martial arts boxer won the contest.

But, what does Ruth Davidson bring to the party?  She's 32 and this is her first time as a MSP.  Does she have the power base to be able to rule competently?  Or is she a stopgap for someone else?  As a former TV journalist, she appears to have some grasp of the issues at stake, but has she ever worked for anyone other than the BBC?  I don't know, but my guess would be that, she will not be as nearly as effective as Ms Goldie, who for all her matronly appearance, was, as we in the West of Scotland, say, 'a nippy sweetie'!

She won't do anything to help the Tories in Scotland but at least she's nice to look at. I wonder if the Huhne will start sniffing round. He seems to go for the ruggies.

It's probably a good move by the Tories as there are definitely more gays in Scotland than there are Tories so it might increase their vote.
Was she not put top of the list vote system after some alleged makey up financial shenanigans by the chap in front of her? Any goss ?

Ruth Davidson seems to be linked to some very spooky people.

Where I live, there are only two Tories.

Both are over 90 years of age.

One is an admirer of Ernst Rohm and the other loves Mussolini (who apparently worked for MI6)

Scottish Conservatives RIP.

Dear Dear! She looks a wee bit like Dougie Alexander in that photo and I would not touch his sister with yours.

Maybe wee Dougie has dolled himself up joined the Tories and has sneakily taken over their party and will now join them with the Labour party since there is very little difference between them.

Next job is the Lib-Dems but they are nearly assimilated with the Tories now anyway.

From the BBC....

"The top Tory candidate on the Glasgow regional list for the Scottish Parliament election has stood down.

The Scottish Conservatives said Malcolm Macaskill, 51, decided not to stand after discussions with its candidates' board.

The party would not give further details, saying it would "respect" his request for confidentiality.

Mr Macaskill has been replaced at the top of the list by Ruth Davidson.

Ms Davidson, a former BBC Scotland reporter, stood for the party at the Glasgow North East by-election in 2009.

Mr Macaskill, who stood for the Tories in Rutherglen and Hamilton West at last year's UK general election, has also removed himself as a candidate for Glasgow Anniesland at the Holyrood elections.

Andrew Fulton, Scottish Conservative chairman, said: "This change arose following discussions between the candidate and the party's candidates board.

"As always in internal issues, such conversations are private and we will respect that confidentiality. I would, however, like to thank Malcolm for his service to the party.

"This difficult decision has been taken in the best interests of the party and we are lucky to have such an able candidate as Ruth Davidson to take over the top spot on our Glasgow regional list."

Mr Fulton is MI6..
