SENSATIONAL POLL FROM THE FIRST WEEK OF ELECTION!

LABOUR LEAD EVAPORATES AS PEOPLE FOCUS ON SCOTLAND’S ELECTION

ALL MOMENTUM WITH SNP – 15-POINT LABOUR LEAD WIPED OUT IN A MONTH

The Scottish National Party have welcomed the first poll of the Scottish Parliament election campaign, which shows that in the space of a month the SNP have wiped out a 15-point Labour lead – with both parties now at level pegging.

SNP Depute Leader and Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said:

“This is a sensational poll, showing that Labour’s lead evaporates as people focus on Scotland’s election.

“All the momentum is with the SNP – in the space of a month, we have wiped out a 15-point Labour lead. There are over five weeks still to go – and already our ratings are 4 points up compared to our election-winning performance in 2007.

“It is now level pegging in the polls. Labour have spent the last month looking over their shoulders and copying all of the SNP’s policies – but people can tell the real thing from the counterfeit.

“We are confident that we can win people’s trust, and that voters will endorse the positive record of the SNP in Government and our vision of a better Scotland – with 1,000 more police on our streets, a continued council tax freeze, a record 25,000 apprenticeship places for young Scots, and protection for health spending.”

I presume that "15 point lead" relates to votes at Westminster DL? If so you are not comparing like with like since it is well known that people have other priorities in local and provincial elections.

When it comes to the next important vote the Scottish people will revert to type and re-elect the same Labour Party that gives them free stuff yet fucks them over, time and again.

Banned, No the 15% referred to the lead they were supposed to have had for Holyrood. It is an important election for us because the Scottish Government controls a large part of the budget. Not as much as many of us would like, of course, but that's for the future.

I stand corrected, that makes it more interesting so why has it happened?
Do Scots really think they can escape their share of the pain caused by the Labour Governments, that THEY voted in, by voting SNP and trying to escape the Union?

Banned, I don't think we would want to escape from our share of the problems caused by the Labour Government. I suppose it's just a different idealogy between the two countries.

So let's get this right. Alex Salmond is hoping to take Scotland into Europe as a fully fledged, small independent nation like Greece, Portugal and Ireland.
Is that the dream?

Niko, I can see the headlines on May 6. "Greek twat dies choking on his words"! Hee hee.

Smokers, your sniggering comment, and I can see you making it, forgets the one thing, well actually more than one thing, Scotland has that the other three don't, it is one of two nations in Europe that has oil. Case rested. I won't say anything about 40% of Europe's renewable power, whisky, timber, hydro power. Do I have to go on?

Great poll and after tonights leaders debate I think we might see another shift in the polls.

Scotlands oil? I think a few oil companies may have a different view on that, and as for the rest of the land and resources, who owns most of it? Not Scots that's for sure.
But of course, as a fully paid up minor partner in Europe, will you have any voice anyway?

Allan said...

Down in Smoke

Yes it is Scotlands oil and the oil companies are guests in our country. Well as the UK we already have a minor voice in Europe when up against bigger nations like France and Germany so you may have a point.

Down in the smoke said...

And where is that oil? Out in the EU owned North sea.
Good luck with telling them they're guests.

Allan said...

Scots law covers it..Just a wee clue!

Down in the smoke said...

And EU law supercedes that.
Nothing against Scotland going its own way, but do it like Nasser. Nationalise everything and and tell the rest to fuck off. Here in England it's all about to go tits up. We're past the point of no return. A walk down my local High Street will make that obvious, i just wouldn't like to see you make the same foolish mistakes that got us in this mess. Don't be a drone of the EU, sink or swim on your own feet, if you don't mind the mixed metaphores.

Or Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark....

"But of course, as a fully paid up minor partner in Europe, will you have any voice anyway?"

Currently, we have no voice whatsover in Europe and the world as part of the rotten Britunion.

Also, only an independent Scotland can decide which international organistions we will join.

Allan, That will depend on how many people were watching it, but Elmer was shite.

Smokers, they can use the oil if they want as long as they pay tax to the Scottish exchequer, as in Norway who have $500 billion in their oil fund. No starving pensioners there dying of the cold.

Smokers, first Scotland has to have the guts to stand up and be counted.

Dark Lochnagar said...

Allan and it also covers the Clyde and Rockall!

Dark Lochnagar said...

Smokers, you know that my preference would be for all of the UK to be out of the EUSSR. I don't see any advantage for an independent Scotland to be part of it, but that is an argument for the future, first we have to grab independence.

Dark Lochnagar said...

Independence firsters, Welcome to the blog.. You are perfectly correct. If Scotland becomes independent then we are IMO, not any longer part of the EU as we are currently members as part of the UK. The same would of course apply to England. So, we can kill two birds with one stone, so to speak!

Scotland, upon Independence, should have a multi-referendum on Membership of E.U. N.A.T.O and the U.N. I would vote no to all three. Then the following year a Referendum on a Constitution and Bill of Rights with a second one eight weeks later if none of the three/four suggestions gets a majority. A Sovereignty Bill and finally a Referendum Bill on the continuation or otherwise of the 1603 Union, possibly followed by a multi-referendum on Independent Crown or Republic, in or out of the British Commonwealth and the timescale this should happen.

Stephen.

Stephen a fine set of ideals and I would live to see it happening, but you don't think there would be voter fatigue? Fuck, mind you that would shake the British Establishment to the roots, to say nothing about the Illuminati!
