AN IMPORTANT WEEK IN SCOTTISH POLITICS

Help THE SNP stop sky-high Council Tax increases

This is an important week for Scotland, and the Council tax freeze, with a vote on Budget plans. Over these past three years the SNP have been able to stop increases in the Council Tax, protecting family incomes at a time of rising prices, wage restraint and higher Westminster taxes like VAT. We want to stop CouncilTax increases over the next two years as well.

The SNP's plan will mean the Scottish Government covering the cost of a Council Tax increase. Councils will still get the extra money they need for services but you won't pay it. Instead the money will come direct from the Scottish Government. The SNP will pay for it by reducing the cost of the Senior Civil Service by 25% over the course of the next parliament, with bonuses removed and salary levels frozen.

The Council tax freeze will save the average Scottish family over £300. And compared with the actual increase in England, the saving is around £450 for each Scottish household.

Inflation and VAT are going up. Salaries are being squeezed. This is no time to put more pressure on family budgets.

And yet, the Labour Party want to put Council Tax up once more. In the decade before 2007 Council Tax doubled. We can't let this happen again.

With your help the SNP can freeze the Council Tax again for another two years.

If the Council Tax doesn't go up where's the money coming from , DL ?

I've found it difficult to get enough work from the council since the freeze . Everything seems to have been cut to the bone and further .

It can only get worse as time goes by .

I'd agree with The Young Oligarch - if you cap the Council tax you cap the services being delivered to the local communities - which impacts on employment !!

DL

why not be selective in the council tax and give hard up families £600
Whilst the stinking rich(such as Alex salmond) can pay a larger and fairer council tax.

Answer please??????

the clue is here:

If Labour and cohorts hadn't blocked LIT than we would have a fairer system but then Labour let the tax collection system go into the ether.

Oli, the clue is in the text:

You have to remember that this is a MINORITY Government whose preferred isea of LIT was voted down by the Unionist parties.

Big Gunner, welcome to the blog. Nice to see you. Of course council spending is going to get squeezed. The Scottish Government's money is being squeezed by LONDON AND THE UNIONIST PARTIES. Scotland is not in control of it's finances and therefore can't raise and spend Scotland's money. Scotland is currently in surplus according to the latest GERS figures as are Norway who are independent and have an oil fund of $500 BILLION.

Niko, FFS don't be daft. How can I say I'm needy and I demand £600 rebate which you living next door don't get. The only fair way, if we don't go to LIT, which was the preferred option of the SNP and WAS VOTED DOWN BY THE LONDON PARTIESis to freeze the CT for everyone.

Wendy, I am heartened at a lady commenter has come on here to teach these Unionit Twats some sense. It would be better if some people read the text! :)
