WOULD A HUNG PARLIAMENT BE A BAD THING?

The big two parties and the Tories in particular are busy spinning against a HUNG U.K. PARLIAMENT.
But would that be such a bad thing?  I don't think so.

This country is in the shite.  The NULABOUR EXPERIMENT has failed.  We are bankrupt.  It has not hurt the Scottish Parliament having a minority Government, although it has stopped the SNP from bringing forward some of their manifesto pledges.  For too long in the U.K., the minority parties which have a more than substantial vote have been sidelined, meaning that some of the most talented politicians have not been in power.  Why should the LIBDEMS have a bigger share of the vote than LABOUR and only get a third of the seats?

Perhaps it is time, in these days of unprecedented economic problems that the most talented and least crooked politicians came to the fore, regardless of WHAT PARTY THEY ARE A MEMBER OF.  Maybe then we could have MPs voting with their brains and knowledge rather than how they are told by party whips.

A hung parliament would be a disaster for the UK. Under our weird voting system labour would get the most seats so we would stil have the gorgon in charge. We would then have fighting between the Tory's, Lib Dems and within Labour over who should be PM. Our credit rating would tank over the uncertainty and our debt would spiral further out of control with all the parties wary of being accused of savage cuts. If a modest cut of £6Bn suggested by the Tories is accused of being savage then how are we ever to tackle our looming debt of £1.4 trillion ? Or £175Bn a year. Roughly £500m a day ?
I hate to say it but only an outright Tory win will save us from total bankruptcy and anarchy on the streets.

On the positive side, it would be manor from heaven for us lot, as they'd squabble constantly like the proverbial ferrets in a sack, causing us no end of parody and amusement. Well..... If they hadn't already gotten around to banning us all first that is, with the digital media act that M.P.s rushed through parliament in a late night "wash up" session, just before New Labour called the election. As they've already begun to use it it seems.

I am genuinely confused. I thought Camerloon would be miles ahead at this stage of the game, but his manifesto was as bland and uninteresting as it could possibly be.

As for Labour's, what a load of dogmatic patronising shite that was! I think I said as much in my post on it on my blog.

The LibDem manifesto was costed in detail, well laid out and looked attractive. Having forced myself to plough through all three, I have to say theirs was the easiest to read without falling asleep.

Maybe that sums up the LibDems - presentation rules! It worked in 97for B-liar so maybe it can work for them.

Having said all that, I worry that if I vote Clegg I get Brown by default - although having said that I live in a safe Tory seat so what's the point anyway?

I think I'll try a post on this on my blog and see if I can canvass some opinions and maybe some advise. I find myself a disenfranchised genuine floating voter (anyone but Gordon, anyway)

Hung parliament - I'm beginning to think they should all be hung!! But I agree with you - a coalition government could be a good thing.

DL I'm afraid I've already gatling gunned the whole 646 down. Oopppss. If there were any good apples in that keg of cider they went down the swill hole with the fermented vegetable matter.

Hung Parliaments are designed to cement longer term trends in the IUD timebomb. Every day of a hung parliament is another nail in the coffin of Blighty and her great constituent parts.

I notice among the commentators on the blogsites, nobody has yet begun to approach the more humorous double-entendre idea of what a truly "young and hung" Parliament might get itself into amongst their backroom gatherings. Guess that means they'd be better at screwing us over since they'd all be "so hung". Better maybe a limp and frigid Parliament than "a hung" one, which might cause nightmares at bedtime amongst the ones still receiving the screw.

Boabs, all in all I think I probably agree with you. I am still old fashioned enough to vote for a solution which I think would help the country. Which has NEVER been Labour. As someone who would like independence however, if there was a decent representation from the SNP and it would give them more clout, I don't think that would be a bad thing. A big vote for the Ligthingies would not definately be a bad thing for the Tories. There are a lot of seats particularly in the North of England where they lie second to Labour, and not that many votes behind in quite a lot of them. The voting system in this country is shite and it's time it was changed.

Dazers, It would certainly be a good laugh from that point of view. I have just recently started tweeting and it is amazing how the confidence is draining away from the Tory and Labour supporters.

Dioclese, welcome. You would have thought that the Tories would have been well ahead at this point, but being led by a prick doesn't help. They have tried to take Labour's ground instead of appealing to their core vote which is anti-Europe for a start. If they offered referendum, their support would rise. Stick that on your blog that would be interesting.

INCOMING!!!! I think you're right. It's time we had a proper clearout once and for all and changed the voting system. PR seems to work well in other countries, why not Britain?
