THREE ASYLUM SEEKERS JUMP 150FT TO THEIR DEATHS IN GLASGOW

Three  aysulum seekers, thought to be Kosovans, have jumped 150 feet to their deaths from the 15th floor of the notorious 'RED ROAD' FLATS in Springburn, Glasgow.   They first had to throw a wardrobe through some safety netting to make sure their suicide bid would be  successful.  Although it would be flippant to say they were only trying to escape the Scottish weather or the state of their accommodation, (I've been in the flats in a professional capacity and believe me you wouldn't keep a dog in there), it seems to me that it is a sad state of affairs when this country can't welcome genuine 'ASYLUM SEEKERS' who would rather commit suicide rather than be sent home.  This is the constituency of former SPEAKER, Michael Martin and of course thanks to the Labour Party's cowardice in not holding a Bi-election there is no sitting MP.  Therefore, as immigration is a reserved matter, there is no one in power locally to make sure an enquiry is swift and probing.  A SAD STATE of affairs for a 'CIVILISED COUNTRY'.

Al ja beeba said it was a Russian family. Mum , Dad and child who had just been refused entry to Canada. The thought of staying in this cesspit of a country pushed them over the edge so to speak.

Good to see Wullie Bain fuckin up already over a reserved matter. Labour with blood on their hands again - they know no shame.

Scunnert, as much as I would like to hang anything on Willie Bain, I don't think Glasgow NE covers the Red Road Flats. It is of course I think next door, but I know that the MSP is Michael Martin's son which suggests it's in Martin's old seat where as I said there is no sitting MP. Turns out they were Russian anyway.

Sad Family, if all they saw of Scotland was fucking Shettleston, I'm not surprised they jumped!

Daisy, this is a safe Labour seat whichever one it is. Good old Glasgow, forever a welcome hand. Fucking disgrace BTW.

DL. Wullie bain was on Newsnight North Britain as 'the local MP' and basically said nothing to see here move along now.

Sad Family, thanks for that. Aye, he'll make a good minister in about 20 years time if they ever get back in again. Wee shite!

DL - not if, when on Newsnight, WB describes his 'shock' at this tragic suicide as being - "like a bolt from the blue".
His feigning of dignified comment exposed in six words.

They were refused in Canada so they sought refuge here claiming asylum *from* Canada.
All I can say is how many are we expected to take?
1000, 1000,000 - there is not engough space here. Regardless of the number we take, we will always be asked to take one more by the hand wringers.
It's a shame but there we are, we're a Country not a charity and we can not be the dumping ground for every needy person out there.
Radical idea - they make their own country nice - scary!

I see Jim Devine is up in front of the beak at Westminster Court on Thursday. I wonder if the BBC will cover the case. No I don't think so either.

Clarinda, Hi. It's a good job he didn't say like a 'bolt of lightning falling from the sky'! Mind you that wouldn't have surprised me, he looks like a right little ill-educated turd.

Headson, maybes aye or maybes no, as Kenneth Dalgleish is said to say. there is quite a lot of room up here and we are supposed to ned some immigration because the Scottish population is falling. What I don't like about immigration is when they all come from the one country, for instance and I'm not using these examples just because they are black, Pakistan or India. When they do come from the one country they don't tend to integrtae with the hos society but form into ghettos where their own type live and there are parts of Glasgow where there are large ethnic communities, Govanhill for instance. I've met some of the Asylum seekers in these very flats through a sales job I had and they tend to be 'educated' people who were doctors, civil servants and lawers in their own country, (the uneducated don't usually have the wherewithall to get their families out). Thy don't want to get a pittance from the state in vouchers that the ethnic grocers rob them for but want to work and pay tax in my experience.

Dodgers, The BBC will not be covering it but, fear not, your DL blog will have an exclusive after midnight on Wednesdy!

You have to ask how convenient ghettos have become. They didn't spring up ready made, look at any migrant community, right back to mediaeval ages in the UK and Europe and you'll find they all had to suffer the ignominy of not being allowed to settle with the indigenous folks. It even happened up until recently in, of all places affluent, Newton Mearns in Renfrewshire, first of all no Jews, then no Asians...

Migrants don't create ghettos they inhabit them because there's nowhere else to go.

Mark I accept your point to a certain degree. That however doesn't explain why when immigrants become affluent they still tend to migrate towrds certain parts of our cities. I can't speak for Edinburgh as I don't know it intamately but in Glasgow on the southside there are pockets of very affluent asian people who are living in 'ghettos', even though they may consist of £250k+ houses. The Jews in Newton Mearns are a perfect example. They don't stand out like the Asians do unless they insist in wearing a skull cap in public like that good, Irish Catholic Jew, Jim Murphy!
