GPs AND DENTISTS COMPLAIN THEY'RE NOT BEING PAID ENOUGH!

SCOTTISH HEALTH SECRETARY, NICOLA STURGEON

DOCTORS and dentists yesterday accused the Scottish Government of cutting their pay, as the SNP announced record funding for health boards.

GPs said a pay award of just under 1 per cent next year would leave their salaries falling far behind those of doctors in the rest of the UK and dentists claimed efficiency savings which they are expected to introduce would be unrealistic.  The warning came as health secretary Nicola Sturgeon announced funding for NHS boards would rise to £8.4billion for 2010-11.  She said the amount equated to a 2.7 per cent increase, with the extra money being prioritised for spending on front-line services.

Dr Robert Kinloch, chairman of the Scottish Dental Practice Committee, said: “The idea that one per cent efficiency savings can be found is simply unrealistic!!
WELL MR KINLOCH, our hearts bleed for you.  You can't in these TIMES OF FINANCIAL RESTRAINT find a 1% EFFICIENCY SAVING?  EH?  How about turning down the heating by ONE DEGREE?  How about opening your fucking dental practises in the evenings and at weekends, so that PEOPLE DON'T HAVE TO TAKE TIME OFF WORK to get their teeth seen to?  Or would that interfere with your HECTIC SOCIAL LIFE?  My dentist is making so much money, (and he's NHS), that he takes Thursday afternoon and Friday off and he's only in his early forties!!

Or even better, stop shagging your DENTAL NURSES so that you don't have to pay them money when you want to EMPLOY A MORE SHAGGABLE, YOUNGER ONE!

Trainee doctors who I know say they don't want jobs as GP's etc and will go abroad when they qualify. There are tons of shortages in popular disciplines but the government cutbacks and use of cheaper doctors from abroad have stopped these positions being available to newly qualified UK staff. The only way to get skills in surgery etc is to go abroad.
This is why there's such a large influx of foreign medical staff into the UK. New Zealand and Australia seem to be the most popular destinations for our doctors after qualification.
There's also the £30K to £40K loans that doctors have to pay back aswell which means no chance of getting a morgage in the UK with the debt to pay off aswell.

Dunno about Scotchland but here in Engerland age old Drs are using the new scheme to big up their holiday entitlement rather than give more time to patients.

More to the fucking point. An undergraduate at the local Medical Training School tells me that every fucking one of those graduating this year intend to fuck off to India, Canada or wherever such is the shitness of our own "envy of the world NHS".

Doctor, I'm not sure if you are from Scotland or England or even if there is a difference! What you say is disturbing, as I have always believed in the NHS in Scotland as not being perfect but pretty good.

DL. This is the state of play for Scottish trained doctors. After seven years there are no vacancies. All skilled vacancies are taken by foreign staff. This is because Scottish staff have a massive debt to pay off. They can't get experience in their chosen speciality so are better off going abroad.
The SNP have made a catastrophic error in their GP funding and NHS strategy. There's no Labour scapegoat here.

Doctore, I'm devastated to hear that. Are you sure it's that bad? Or is it just in certain parts of the country? I thought the SNP were cancelling student debt? Surely this debt must be a throwback to the Lab/Libthingies?

It's bad DL. Spoken personally to a trainee Doc. She was 3 feet from me and had £25K of debt from a Scottish Uni. She's going abroad ASAP to avoid her debt and get some proper post Uni training.
Tales of GP's on £135K a year are true but are only for trained GP's

On the other hand DL, if Scotland is running short of cash with all that free University tuition, extra nurses wages and free old age health care perhaps I might have a word with me old mucker Dr. Barnett, get him to bung you a bit more.

Doctore, Yes I take your point about the GPs on £134k but you can't expect to be earning that as soon as you qualify. Who do you think you are, a Banker! But seriously, surely this debt is from previous years as there are no fees now. At least it gives you something to aim at if you know that at some time in the future and probably for around 30 or so years, you can earn that sort of money. It used to be around £80k. If the four useless bastards in my surgery are getting £134k it is about £100k too much. I have a problem with my foot which all four failed to diagnose but as soon as I insisted they refer me to a hospital it was spotted right away but too late and it has certainly changed my life. I'd sue the basatrds but I know they would close ranks and not admit what they said to me at the time.

Banned, yes that would very good of you. Ask my Darling if we can have some more pocket money please. Just some of the oil money that has flowed from Scotland over the last 40 years and has bankrolled the British economy in that time.

Anywhere in the world, dentists are really important. Just like in our area, dentists (Memphis, Tennessee) serve their patients with diligence and enthusiasm. With respect to the cost of their services, a dentist in Memphis told me that their dental fee is reasonable and affordable. Anyway, dental insurance and co-pay arrangements are available nowadays.
