Slightly O/T DL, met a newly trained Royal Marine reservist the other day. He tells me that this new status allows him to buy his own boots. Seems that we and France are the only advanced nations to equip our forces with single layer unpadded boots but that, once out of training, they are 'permitted' to buy, out of their own pockets, padded boots as used by all other forces.
Yet Brown, as with helicopters, continues the lie that our forces get the best equipment money can buy.
Banned, I'm sorry. I don't think it is o/t at all. Read the whole story (in the Mail). As the most senior officer to die Colonel Thorneloe warned in hid reports to the MOD that moving men by truck because of the lack of air support was causing, his own as well, eventually. Brown has constantly said thar we have enough helicopters when the men on the ground have been telling the cunt the opposite. So who's to blame for their deaths?
Imagine having to buy your own boots. Fuck me, you just pass training and then yo have what a £150-200 cost to buy boots. Fucking disgusting!
It's always been the case in the Forces that you have to cough up for any decent gear. I was a servicemen in the 80's and we all ditched our DMS ankle breakers and bought decent boots. Same with our camouflage smocks. ( goretex for the standard waterproof sweatbox). Our rifles were a joke then aswell. I used to keep a penny coin in my pocket for when my magazine emptied. This stopped the spring jumping out. Oh and cleaning the SA80 was a nightmare with the gasplug getting jammed due to poor design ( instant jankers if you fucked up the rifle as it took the armourers ages to sort it out). Hopefully the rifle is better now. But I doubt it.
Private Fraser, I find that story fucking disgusting. How can we send men to die on foreign fields under equipted. Different if it's a world war like the last two and you are playing catchy up. Brown and Blair are war criminals.
DL. Most ex servicemen would have a smile at your attack on Labour. We have always been shafted in the forces irrespective of who was in power. I was made redundant under the Tory "options for change ". My friends were petitioned to appear in court for non payment of poll tax while sitting in a slit trench in Iraq. Watching scud missiles fly over their heads. To think that things will be better when Labour are kicked out is so funny !
Private Fraser. I don't think they will get any better. I support independence for Scotland, hopefully outwith the E.C. and I hope that we could have a smaller, better equiped yet more professional armed service.
DL, just to be clear, I was not suggesting that your initial post re helicopters was O/T ( off topic ) rather that my response to it might be, somewhat.
