By coincidence I was driving through Comrie yesterday on the way to investigate a landslip story in Crianlarich.
I was struck by how beautiful the town was and what a beautiful setting. Yet there was something missing . Then I realised what it was. Despite being a beautiful autumn day there were no birds singing or children playing in the parks.
This is a village of shame. Even this long after the war the stain of collaboration hangs in the air. Locals look out from behind net curtains as you drive through the town. Are they expecting the infantry to finally arrive in town and arrest them ? How have they managed to evade the long arm of the law for so long ?
Now their only hope is that Herr Wanksteinmeyer dies quickly so that they can get his money and resettle in Argentina. But maybe this expose will dash that faint hope.

This old Nazi comited terrible crimes in his past. He like so many other Nazi's killed thousands and showed no mercy.
To this day he must had thought he was the luckiest guy alive becouse of the way the Scottish troops treated him and i think this is his way of saying thanks.
I dont belive for one minute the people of Comrie were Collaborators, it was small villages like this that lost so many of its men in the war.
