THE LEGATUM PROSPERITY INDEX FOR 2009 has just been announced and the best and worst are shown above. The index is determined from the following criteria:

■Social Capital – trustworthiness in relationships and strong communities
Britain for those interested is at NUMBER 12, ONE BEHIND IRELAND who are at NUMBER 11 with NORWAY coming in AT NUMBER 5.
