One of the brave ANONYMOUS contributors on another post accused us SCOTS PEOPLE or 'PORRIDGE WOGS' as he puts it, as being the only reason Labour get into power. Well I decided to investigate that remark. In 1997 Labour had an overall Majority of 179. Scotland contributed a 'net' 40 MPs. Therefore if it had been purely an English election, Labour would have had a majority of 139. In 2001, a Majority of 167 minus 40 from Scotland, equals and English majority of 127. In 2005, majority 66 minus 23 from Scotland, equals an English majority of 43.
So as you can see, since 1997 had it been purely an English election, Labour would have still got in with substantial majorities. So sorry ANONYMOUS, you can't blame us 'PORRIDGE WOGS'! What about the North of England?
