THE Scottish Government's bid to attract doctors from outside the EU in four key medical disciplines has been rejected by Gordon Brown's Westminster administration, Dark Lochnagar can reveal.

The UK government knocked back an SNP attempt to fast-track job applications of foreign ear, nose and throat (ENT) doctors, biochemists, eye specialists and oral-surgery consultants seeking positions in Scottish hospitals.

THIS IS ANOTHER ARGUEMENT FOR INDEPENDENCE!  Whilst London controls who can migrate here from their own country to help us out in ours, we ARE BEING HELD BACK and what is worse our HEALTH IS SUFFERING!  Not only that, but these people earn money and gain experience which will be handy in their native countries if they ever decide to return at some stage.

I take your point, but you don't want a half trained zombie, whose certificates were knocked up on Photoshop and can't speak the language prescribing anything for you - I've been there.
In fact, living outside Scotland, I'm the victim here - no joking!

Good post. This is exactly the kind of argument that we need to push forward in our attempt to make people see how much we need independence.

Immigration policy is, like all other policies of the UK government, decided on the needs and wants of London and the South East.

Out of 640+ MPs, Scotland has 59... what the hell do we matter?

We don't need any more witch doctors in the UK so it's a good news story to me.
And they will never go back to bongoland again when they realise how much we pay them.

Headson, living in Scotland we do have some advantages that we can control some of our own destiny. The problem in the UK is not England perse but the South East of England. Everything is set to suit them, interest rates, housing, medicine etc. There are many regions of England could do with independence from London, the North East for example. This is what we are fighting for in Scotland, well some of us. We want to be able to control our own banks etc, not allowing them to increase the gearing above what is possible then getting it flung in our faces that they are Scottish when they fail despite the fact they have been paying taxes to the British Treasury since 1707. The Bank of England was started by a Scotsman, but that doesn't make it Scottish. I'm going off in a tangent here but I hope you take my point!

Tris, as far as London is concerned we don't. If we did not have a devolved SNP Government we would be back to the "feeble 50" which we had in the days of Thatcher when the Scottish Labour MPs were powerless to do anything to control the destiny of Scotland. Which at that time was probably a good thing because the country was in a hell of a state. I remember I was here! The situation now of course is entirely different. I wat to see a prosperous Scotland along the Norwegian model powered by oil and renewables and exporting them to the world but being outside the EU because in my opinion being in the EU will strangle all that we want for Scotland.

I live in the north-east of England, so there is certainly at least one person here who would prefer the North-East to be independent of an England dominated by the South-East.

I wonder how many of us up here would prefer to be part of an independent Scotland than be a forgotten backwater of England ... who knows? that number might be larger than many people would suspect.

Anonymous, there are many countries from which we can import doctors which are not Bongoland. Australia, New Zealand and South Africa immediately spring to mind. I don't give a fuck if they give us the best 30 years of their lives and then return to teach or whatever in their own countries. If however they want to settle here and EMBRACE OUR CULTURE then they are very welcome. If however they want to stay in their own cultural enclave and practise customs that are alien to ours then they can fuck off home when we are done with them.

Edgar, I would welcome the North East of England to join an independent Scotland as we are very alike in our beliefs. What is it they say about Geordies being Scotsmen with their brains kicked out (lol) or I think you have it the other way around! Certainly the people of Berwick which is and should be Scottish would want to be part of an independent country.

DL, how-do - I posted as anonymous earlier under the GNE / Bain thread. Got me one of these blogger accounts now - I'm off the bench and into the game. Anyways I was in the NE of England about 6 months ago - I got a bit of aggro from some cnuts in a pub about scots stealing their money and the usual non acceptance of our 'foreign' dosh. We were also at a party one evening and I happened to mention A.S.'s
name and the feckers went ballistic. Never had any trouble before. It's really hardened my attitude now.

F.V. Welcome if you don't mind I'll abbreviate your name.

It's not their fault, they are fed a load of shite by the unionist press both in Scotland and England who don't want to see the union dissolved beacuse they have been living on Scottish oil money since the 70s. There is quite a good video called the great obfuscation, I think it's called which will give you some ammo and the real story. It's what investigative journalism should be about not the shite we get fed from the Herald and in particluar the Scotsman.

Nice to put a name to the comment!
