GENDER EQUALITY-YOUNG WOMENS' CAR INSURANCE TO ROCKET!

Young women drivers could see their insurance premiums rocket by £4,300 over a key eight year period because of a legal ruling by the European Union.

On Tuesday EU judges will rule whether the fact that women are charged lower premiums than men breaches sex discrimination laws.

If they decide it does, female drivers under 26 are likely to see costs rise by about 25 per cent, while men will see insurance rates drop by about 10 per cent, according to the Association of British Insurers.

Now, at the risk of sounding like an old fart, it is a statistical fact that women actually have MORE accidents than young men, per mile driven.  Although they tend to be more minor than mens', nevertheless, why should men pay a lot more for their insurance?  Women wanted equality and this is just the jammy side of the bread.

It may be just my experience, but I find nowadays when a 'boy racer' passes you, it's just as likely to be a 'girl racer'.  There is also a safety issue here.  Have you ever looked at some womens' shoes when they get out of the car?  How the fuck, can they drive in those heels?

Women, in my opinion, should be made to pas a different test from men as they are obviously, on average, not as competent at driving as men.  Apart from that, they're always looking at themselves in the mirror, as if it's the only reason it's there, is to put their make-up on with and they're always on the fucking phone to someone!

No, No, women should actually pay a lot more than men as they probably cause a great deal of accidents with shoes, make-up and phones and it's time the Department of Transport, changed the rules.

A man alarmed lorry drivers for months by standing naked on a dual carriageway exposing himself to oncoming traffic, a court has heard.

David Gray admitted he got a "buzz" by parking beside the A9 late at night, leaping out of his pick-up, and flashing to passing vehicles.

There has been a demand for a criminal investigation into the planning process of one of Scotland's biggest councils after a BBC investigation revealed relationships between a millionaire developer and senior politicians.

A LETTER FROM THE SCOTTISH REVIEW

I read Gordon Lawrie's Open letter to SR readers and Mr Salmond (SR, 16 February), (a fine read, Ed!), suggesting that we should forget independence and by implication become unionists. Mr Salmond is well able to look after himself and will no doubt reply if he sees fit.
     In so far as the letter is also addressed to myself as a reader I would seek to persuade that another perspective may be taken. For many like myself the problem with the unionist position is the marked absence of national self-esteem.
     It does not break unionist hearts that their position implies that Scotland's potentially unique, distinctive, and independent voice would never, never, be heard in the European Parliament or in the United Nations.
     Their opposition underlines the fact that unionist politicians have absolutely no desire to represent Scotland in the wider stage of world politics and demonstrates a singular lack of healthy ambition both for themselves and their country.
     They are content to paddle about in the parochialisms of devolved politics, are happy to forswear playing a personal and representative part in the international forums of a larger world and to remain oblivious to the fact that inter-nationalism implies the existence of nationalism.
     It is not that their vision for themselves and their country is too big; it is simply too small.

Help THE SNP stop sky-high Council Tax increases

This is an important week for Scotland, and the Council tax freeze, with a vote on Budget plans. Over these past three years the SNP have been able to stop increases in the Council Tax, protecting family incomes at a time of rising prices, wage restraint and higher Westminster taxes like VAT. We want to stop CouncilTax increases over the next two years as well.

The SNP's plan will mean the Scottish Government covering the cost of a Council Tax increase. Councils will still get the extra money they need for services but you won't pay it. Instead the money will come direct from the Scottish Government. The SNP will pay for it by reducing the cost of the Senior Civil Service by 25% over the course of the next parliament, with bonuses removed and salary levels frozen.

The Council tax freeze will save the average Scottish family over £300. And compared with the actual increase in England, the saving is around £450 for each Scottish household.

Inflation and VAT are going up. Salaries are being squeezed. This is no time to put more pressure on family budgets.

And yet, the Labour Party want to put Council Tax up once more. In the decade before 2007 Council Tax doubled. We can't let this happen again.

With your help the SNP can freeze the Council Tax again for another two years.

ARE THE MAINSTREAM POLITICIANS AFRAID OF AV IN CASE IT CHANGES THEIR COSY EXISTENCE?

William Hague has attacked Liberal Democrat plans to introduce Alternative Vote system by declaring 'A vote for AV will be a vote for the BNP'.  (I hope so, Ed).

In a rallying cry to the Tory rank-and-file, the Foreign secretary called the AV system 'unfair' and 'expensive'.

He is seeking to mobilise his party in a bid to save the current first-past-the-post voting system that could be abolished in the upcoming electoral reform referendum.

Now I don't hold any truck with the BNP and AV as a voting system is about as much use as a fart in a spacesuit, however what it does show is that the Conservatives and Labour are afraid of a Westminster where a range of views are heard, instead of MPs being acquiescent to the wishes of their party whips and trooping into their parties lobby.

I believe that the Scottish Parliament was improved by the likes of Tommy Sheridan's crew and it is my fervent hope that George Galloway gets elected this time.  We need a range of different views at Westminster.  MPs who are not beholden to their party for promotion or Government jobs and can actually help their constituents.  I also think without the Libdums, we would have seen much more extremist policies from the Tories and although I wouldn't have disagreed with all of them after 13 tears of shite from Labour.  I see the bastards are kicking up again about IPSO, if they don't like it they can resign.  All this pish about their expenses claims not being honoured making them unable to do their jobs properly looking after their constituents, is the biggest load of crap, I have ever heard.

It's time we rumbled up the whole Palace of Westminster, starting with the Lords and the political placemen who sit in 'that place' and collect over £1000 per week in expenses, some of which have criminal convictions like Lord Watson, who should have had his enoblement taken off him.

Why should we continue to pay £billions of OUR MONEY, to keep this shambles of an Establishment going.  The time for change is here, now.

HERE COME THE FOOD RIOTS!

World Bank President Robert Zoellick says global food prices have hit "dangerous levels" that could contribute to political instability, push millions of people into poverty and raise the cost of groceries.

The bank says in a new report that global food prices have jumped 29 per cent in the past year, and are just 3 per cent below the all-time peak hit in 2008. Mr Zoellick says the rising prices have hit people hardest in the developing world because they spend as much as half their income on food.

The World Bank estimates higher prices for corn, wheat and oil have pushed 44 million people into extreme poverty during the year.

Mr Zoellick said he expects food prices to continue to rise, and that export bans and weather disruptions are partly to blame.

What he neglects to mention is the amount of arable land given over to growing Bio-Crops as the World searches for affordable oil as the supply begins to run out.  Peak oil, was in 1964.  Since then discoveries have been in decline.  Demand is rising by 30% per year, while production is falling by 9%.  It doesn't take a genius to work out that at some point the two figures will converge and at that point we are running out of oil.  Don't believe all the shit you hear about shale oil, we explored that a few posts ago.  More and more land will be given over to Bio-Fuels and that will only make the food problem worse.  The only drawback from that, is that most cultivated land in the World is only kept going by the over use of fertilizers produced by and from oil and crops could not be grown on those fields without chemicals.

SNP SURGE INTO LEAD FOR HOLYROOD AFTER NEW MORI POLL

Alex Salmond and the SNP have staged a sensational comeback in the race for Holyrood, moving into the lead over Labour with only ten weeks to go until election day, according to a poll for The Times.
The Ipsos MORI survey of more than 1,000 voters reveals a big resurgence by the Nationalists since the end of last year, putting them ahead, in terms of those certain to vote, in the first-past-the-post and regional list sections of the poll for the first time in a year.
The result of the poll throws wide open the outcome of the Scottish election and brings to a halt a period when Labour appeared to be heading for victory. It will trigger deep alarm within Labour and puts pressure on Iain Gray, its leader in Scotland, with voters preferring Mr Salmond to Mr Gray as the next First Minister.
If the findings were repeated on May 5, the SNP would again be the largest party with 51 seats, four more than now, according to an analysis by Professor John Curtice of Strathclyde University. Labour would have 48 MSPs (up 2).The Tories would have 14 MSPs (down 3) and the Lib Dems 12 (down 4). The Greens would have 4 MSPs, double their present standing.
It would mean that Mr Salmond could opt again for his preferred option of minority government, or come to an understanding, short of a formal coalition, with the Conservatives.
An SNP-Tory pact would give him a one-seat overall majority on key votes, provided that the new Presiding Officer came from one of the other parties.
If Mr Salmond opted for a “rainbow” pact with the Lib Dems and Greens, he could look forward to another four years in power supported, again on key votes, by 67 MSPs, a majority of 5.
The poll, undertaken after renewed controversy over the release of the Lockerbie bomber and after the SNP Budget passed last week with SNP, Tory and Lib Dem MSPs joining forces, is a huge boost for the Nationalists. It shows that on the constituency or first-past-the-post section of the election, the SNP would have 37 per cent support, up 6 points on a similar Ipsos MORI poll last November, when the party was 10 points behind Labour.
Labour would have 36 per cent, down 5 points, while the Tories and the Lib Dems are flatlining at 13 per cent and 10 per cent respectively.
In the regional list, the SNP are on 35 per cent (up 3), Labour is on 33 per cent (down 3), the Tories are on 13 per cent (up 1), and the Lib Dems on 10 per cent (up 1). The Greens are on 6 per cent.
Recent polls have indicated that Labour’s strong performance in Scotland in the general election was being carried over to the Holyrood poll. But with voters’ attention now focused on the Holyrood election, the momentum appears to be with the SNP.
The party’s claim that in Mr Salmond and his Cabinet colleagues it has a better team of “big hitters” compared with Labour, seems to be resonating with voters — 51 per cent are satisfied with Mr Salmond’s performance, compared with 35 per cent dissatisfied.
Only 33 per cent are satisfied with Mr Gray (down six points on last November) and 34 per cent dissatisfied. Just as worrying for Labour is that 33 per cent of respondents have no opinion on Mr Gray’s performance as leader, indicating that for many Scots he remains an unknown quantity as an alternative First Minister.
If Labour fails to regain power in Scotland it would be a shattering blow for Mr Gray and a serious reverse for Ed Miliband in his first big test since he succeeded Gordon Brown.
The only comfort for the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats in Scotland is that their support has not slipped farther and now appears to have reached a plateau. But both parties would have fewer MSPs.

An article in today’s Times newspaper and an online article by the New Statesman reveal ‘startling’ splits and problems within the Scottish Labour party only weeks before the Scottish Parliamentary election says the SNP’s Campaign Director Angus Robertson.
 
In today’s Times newspaper a queue of anonymous party sources criticise Iain Gray for deciding the Labour group should vote against the SNP Government’s budget, saying he was led by an ‘immature minority’ within the party and that they should have accepted what John Swinney offered them since it met their demands and would let them look like they were acting in the ‘national interest’.
 
And in an online article in the New Statesman it is revealed by Dan Hodges that Labour’s draft manifesto for the Scottish Parliament elections is ‘uncosted’  - confirming SNP criticisms of Labour’s burgeoning policy announcements – and that the UK party will put all additional capacity into the Welsh Assembly elections  with only one additional party staff member seconded to the Scottish campaign.
 
Commenting Mr Robertson said:
 
"These reports just show that in May, voters will have a choice between a responsible, experienced SNP government aiming to protect Scotland’s progress by creating jobs, investing in essential public services and helping family budgets – or a divided and hypocritical Labour party putting immature political opposition before the people of Scotland.
 
“The revelations show Iain Gray was led on the Budget vote and that he isn’t even capable of leading his own group of MSPs, never mind Scotland.
 
“It just proves that they were offered all they wanted – and more – and put puerile political opposition before the national interest.
 
“It is obvious many of his MSPs are unhappy and have startlingly resorted to making known their unhappiness with Iain Gray’s leadership.
 
“The New Statesman is equally revealing in showing a lack of confidence in Iain Gray’s leadership by his London bosses who don’t believe the Scottish campaign is worthy of significant additional resources.

SALMOND WOULD RATHER LEAD ANOTHER MINORITY GOVERNMENT

Alex Salmond would prefer to lead another minority government rather than enter into a coalition deal if this May's Holyrood elections result in a hung parliament.

Speaking on Newsnight Scotland, the first minister said he would not rule out joining a coalition but that would not be his first choice.

He said he felt his minority government had "proved itself".

A minority Government to some extent has been good for Scotland, much better than a coalition.  If only, the fucking numpties in the the Labour party, could actually enter into the Government of Scotland, by contributing to the budget as do the Tories and the Libdums, instead of acting like a bunch of overexcited  schoolboys on their first date, the Governance of Scotland could be more of an adult affair.  The thought of that prick, Gray, being first minister is enough to make a good proportion of Scots,  move to England.

WIND FARMS-ARE THEY GOOD OR BAD-YOU DECIDE

I've not really made up my mind about WIND FARMS.  Do we need to care about climate change?  If so, is Nuclear a better option than wind?  Here's some good and bad points:

Arguments in favour of wind farms

• The UK needs to meet a target to generate 15 per cent of energy from renewables by 2020 as part of global plans to fight climate change.
• The technology produces no greenhouse gases once it has been installed.
• Wind farms will decrease reliance on volatile energy supplies from abroad.
• Manufacturing and installing wind farms in the UK will provide ‘green jobs’
• The technology is becoming cheaper as wind farms are built around the world.

Arguments against wind farms

• The turbines usually have to be sited in isolated windy spots, that are also often areas of outstanding natural beauty.
• The noise from wind turbines has been blamed for health problems including stress and insomnia.
• Wind turbines only work at maximum capacity for a third of time, meaning they have to be backed up by other technologies such as coal and nuclear.
• The inconsistent power generated by by wind farms requires the grid to be upgraded to cope with the surges in power.
• Wind farms are expensive to build and only last up to 25 years.

OBAMA SELLS BRITAIN OUT TO THE RUSSIANS!

The latest revelation from Wikileaks is the most damaging so far to the Anglo-American Special Relationship. The disclosure in The Telegraph today that the Obama Administration “secretly agreed to give the Russians sensitive information on Britain’s nuclear deterrent to persuade them to sign a key treaty” points to an astonishing betrayal of America’s closest friend and ally, that may have significant implications for the relationship between David Cameron and Barack Obama.

According to The Telegraph report:

Information about every Trident missile the US supplies to Britain will be given to Russia as part of an arms control deal signed by President Barack Obama next week.

Defence analysts claim the agreement risks undermining Britain’s policy of refusing to confirm the exact size of its nuclear arsenal. A series of classified messages sent to Washington by US negotiators show how information on Britain’s nuclear capability was crucial to securing Russia’s support for the “New START” deal.

Although the treaty was not supposed to have any impact on Britain, the leaked cables show that Russia used the talks to demand more information about the UK’s Trident missiles, which are manufactured and maintained in the US.

We need America's permission to fire the things and we can't do so,  without that permission.  So  what's this 'independent' nuclear deterrent shite? Why are we spending  £Billions on a system that we can't fire and now is going to be known, all about by the Russians?  Can we not share them with France?  We seem to share everything else!  We should withdraw from this 'global power' nonsense and concentrate our efforts defending our shores against illegal immigration, forced on us by the EU.  Then we would be able to hold our heads high again in the world and not be seen as a second rate 'Superpower'.

REGULATION OF POWER COMPANIES IS A DISGRACE!

Now, it just so happens that the one, who is going up, is the one I use.  That is not really the issue, as they've held their prices until March the first, although it is sickeningly predictable that their prices go up on March the second.  The power companies seem to put our power up when the wholesale price goes up and never bring it down, when the price falls.

Which brings me to the 'regulator', OFGEM.  What fucking use are they?  Have they been set up as a sop by the politicians to us stupid bastards at the bottom of the heap, i.e. the 99.5% of us?  Why don't they ever do anything to force the power companies to REDUCE their prices?  Are their palms being greased?  Where does the Chairman take his holidays and how much does he earn?  These are the questions the MSM, should be asking, now they've brought some semblance of discipline to Westminster and MPs'expenses, (laughs down cuff)!

I noticed that the power companies are, as one of the excuses for high prices, saying that GREEN TAXES now account for 9% of electricity bills and 5% of gas.  So on average we are paying, £90 per year in GREEN TAXES.

Civil liberties campaigners fear the new EU surveillance system will make Britons more vulnerable to miscarriages of justice amid growing concern over EU policing measures and the lack of safeguards or judicial standards in some European countries.

MPs have also been angered that the government is actively negotiating,  to hand over the information without first informing the House of Commons, making a “charade” of ministerial promises not give up justice powers to the EU without parliamentary approval.
